Coimbatore-based doctor C. Palanivelu became the first Indian to be recognised and honoured by the British House of Commons for 'Original Contribution to the Development of Laparoscopic Surgery'. Chairman of Gem Hospital Institute of Gastroenterology and Laparoscopy, Dr. Palanivelu was given a medal and a certificate as a part of the award.
