ASMR, Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response, is a relaxing, sleep-inducing, pleasurable sensation on a person's skin, usually felt in the regions of the scalp, arms and back. It has been described as a feeling similar to “goosebumps”, but in a very positive manner. ASMR causes the person to feel “tingles”, which is the goosebumps feeling on their skin, leading to a sleepy, calm state of mind and body. ASMR is known to have helped thousands of people fight insomnia and stress all over the world. ASMR can be triggered by various stimuli, such as specific sounds (popular triggers include scissors, page turning, plastic bag crinkles, whispering, fabric scratching etc) or visual triggers such as hand movements, examination of everyday objects, close attention, light movements and so on. Each person is triggered by very different things, but the sensation itself is the same.
