United Nations, 3 February 2009 - Mr. Staffan de Mistura, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq, briefs on the Iraqi elections via video conference. The Special Representative said that these elections were an important test for Iraq, since they are the first conducted by the Iraqis themselves, with UN assistance, and they are the first in which Sunnis voted in substantial numbers, among other factors.
