The international community has endorsed calls by Afghan President Hamid Karzai for Afghanistan to take charge of security by 2014 and assume greater control of development aid. Representatives from more than 60 nations and organizations backed a number of Afghan initiatives aimed at increasing the nation's responsibility for its security and development.
