Mexican actress Kate del Castillo is suing the Mexican government after accusing officials of 'political persecution' following her well-publicized meeting with Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman and Hollywood star Sean Penn. Del Castillo, 46, is suing Mexican officials for $60million, claiming that former president Enrique Pena Nieto and his administration's Attorney General's Office [PGR] dragged her name through the mud during an investigation after her trip to Mexico to talk to the Sinaloa Cartel leader in October 2015. Assistant U.S. Attorney Adam Fels told her that Penn had a helping hand in El Chapo's capture in January 2016 after the drug baron had spent two years on the run. El Chapo was then extradited to the United States and is currently facing trial in a federal New York court. 'Sean Penn helped with his (El Chapo's) location and subsequent capture,' Del Castillo said during a press conference Thursday, which marked her return to Mexico since the eventful meeting took place with the then fugitive kingpin three years ago. I was not aware of this situation and this is the betrayal I was talking about.'
