Chapter 4...chapter 4 is hard, but a blessing in disguise. 

First off, set up a defense and let enemies cross the bridges to come to you. You don't want to fight them head on, there's a ton of them and they're pretty strong. Just make sure they only attack who you want them to attack and take them down one at a time.

In this stage we have Clarine rushing to us a few turns in. Once she speaks to Roy she'll become playable. Clarine is the best healer in the game hands down for her movement and ability to dodge effectively.

Not long after that Rutger will appear as an enemy. Rutger is freaking strong. Stronger than anyone in your party right now. And he's recruitable. Whatever you do, don't let him attack you. He'll move close on his own, so just get Clarine close enough to where she can reach him and have her talk to him to recruit him. This will get you the best character in the game. You see, in Hard Mode enemy units get a stat boost. This includes enemy units you can recruit. So units like Rutger are invaluable, especially this early.

Once you have Rutger you can basically throw him at any enemy and expect him to live and the enemy to die, so feel free to start moving up. Don't forget to visit the villages and use the shops. Definitely want to buy some more Heal staves.

The boss is a calvary unit but Rutger, Dieck, and Marcus should be able to take him down. Just swap out one for the other when any of them take too much damage, then heal the one you had back off. Honestly Rutger can take him down on his own though. Lugh can deal some decent damage, but will most likely die if counterattacked so be careful if you try to use him to soften up the boss.
