The buggy whip forehand finish can give you the extra edge you may be looking for on your forehand.  It is such powerful way to swing and finish on the forehand side. However, many players and coaches think that the buggy whip forehand finish is a lot different than finishing over the shoulder for a regular forehand.

It's true that the buggy whip is much different if you let the hand go way behind the head at the end of the swing.  But I do not teach this finish style especially when first leaning this all important shot.

The key on the buggy whip forehand finish is to finish with the hand more above the head  which enables maximum extension to occur.  If you simply hold the buggy whip forehand finish at the end of the stroke and then move your dominant hand about 6 inches toward your non dominant shoulder your hand will be in the "high drive" forehand finish position. 

This more conventional finish is not that much different than the fundamental buggy whip forehand finish that I teach.

The good news is that you can rest easy knowing the buggy whip forehand fundamental swing is not that much different than the regular over the shoulder finish.

And pros have been using this shot for decades even though it has gained more popularity the last 5-10 years when Nadal buggy whipped his way onto the scene.

Next time you go out onto the court, try and finishing with your dominant hand above and slightly in front of your head to hit a proper, fundamentally sound buggy whip forehand finish.
