Hurricane Maria made landfall in Puerto Rico as a Category 4 storm early on Wednesday. The US National Hurricane Center says Maria will pummel the island with maximum sustained winds of 255 kilometers per hour (about 160 mph). The agency says the hurricane is moving in a north-westerly direction at 17 km/h (10 mph).
