Catching the biggest fish in the water seems to be the goal for so many fisherman, and this is fine as it is a health way to release one of the 4 main mood controlling chemicals in the human brain.
The feeling of exhilaration that is felt when catching the biggest fish, is due to a rush, or sudden increase in the production of dopamine in the brain.
This feeling can be triggered not just in fishing, but also in many other activities.
Basically, anything that can give you a natural high increases the production of dopamine in the brain. Whether it be catching the biggest fish, kicking the most goals, your team winning the grandfinal etc...
That is why so many people target the biggest fish, because they like that feeling of a natural high, whereas other people like myself go fishing for other reasons...to stimulate other neurological receptors and produce different chemicals in the brain, such as serotonin.
I studied full time for 12 months and completed certificate 4 in mental health back in around 2012. It was the best thing that I ever done with my life and something that I have never regretted.
I love fishing every bit as much now as I did before I studied mental health, I just have a greater understanding of WHY it is that I love fishing so much, and why I do not set out to catch the biggest fish as many other anglers do.
