Enforcing the Act required a slow and difficult approval process so, in 1975, Ontario's Progressive Conservative Party introduced the Retail Business Holidays Act, which permitted police to charge retailers who opened their stores on Sundays. The Lord's Day Act was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court of Canada in 1985, but defeating the battle against the Ontario provincial ban on Sunday Shopping was the result of political opposition. From 1986 until 1992, only one political party in Ontario - Freedom Party - fought the provincial ban on Sunday shopping. By 1992, thanks largely to its efforts, public opinion had shifted against the ban. This documentary is the history of the ban on Sunday shopping, and of its defeat.
