943's a two-years-in-the-making eatery (inspection delays? in Philly?!), serving up Italian-/ Argentinian- fused fare from an open kitchen looking out over an airy dining room with dark wood floors, heavily lacquered block tables, and decor touches like an accordion and a whole bunch of wine bottles, a combination presumably responsible for polka. Getting dinner started are plates of Mollejas (grilled marinated sweetbreads & chimichurri); Chorizo y Morcilla, combining house made spicy and blood sausage; empanadas stuffed with everything from beef, egg, and olives to parma cotto and crucolo; and Moscardino Pulpo: salted octopus, black olive, and Swiss chard, aka, how to order an overcooked cheeseburger. Big dishes bring things like Merluzza de Francesco (hake w/ mushrooms & lemon), a trio of plates mixing meat (grilled skirt steak, short rib, or Piedmontese NY strip), and Parrillada Juani, a two-man platter of sweetbreads, short ribs, skirt/strip steaks, and blood sausage, the very thing Kristen Stewart can't seem to get enough of in those Twilight movies.
