I actually talk in this video about what's going on with this project. I'm testing various stages and material development for performing the Verniuel process of creating flame fusion corundum, synthetic ruby and sapphire. I've made several small test batches of different quality ruby and the third is by for the best in color and clarity. I have pictures up on my Google+ profile if interested. I'll also create a video on them specifically to demonstrate the properties and further examination under the microscope and UV light which is amazing. Of course the camera doesn't even come close to doing it justice. I had just finished letting this fused corundum cool down from a bright glow. It made a few tiny sapphire boules of low quality and they hadn't fully changed color in this video, but they aren't as nice as the rubies or the previous microscopic sapphire pieces I created on an earlier test.
