Jiang Wei's version of this is more the normal version of it, where Zhuge Liang passes away mid battle and Jiang Wei has to take over.  Since the battle goes well he still does the full charge.  Also, if you take out Deng Ai before he sets up the catapults he won't be in hyper mode.
