Halifax Area Railfanning Nov 24-25 video 3 of 4

A few short video clips following the low speed derailment of VIA Rail passenger train 15 "The Ocean" at Halifax, NS on Sunday morning as it was heading to the Halterm Container Terminal to turn it's consist around in preparation for it's 1pm departure to Montreal. The baggage car and three coaches derailed likely as a result of the train "spitting a switch" damaging the track and the coaches. No one was injured in the derailment, and no passengers were on the train at the time. VIA Rail F40PH-2D locomotives 6454 (40th anniversary wrap), 6457, and 6451 all remained on the tracks as did the rear portion of the train. It's unclear at time if the damage cars can be repaired or will have to be scrapped. The derailment also prevented CN from accessing the Halterm Container Terminal for the rest of the day.

It has been a bad week for VIA Rail in Nova Scotia as just two days earlier a VIA Rail employee was seriously injured after falling under a VIA Rail train in Truro.

Filmed at 9:40am, Sunday November 25, 2018 at about mile 1 of the CN Bedford Subdivision.
