After the Japanese earthquake, we were evacuated from our home in Santa Cruz, because of an imminent tsunami, which came while we were gone and left our street full of sand and seaweed and atomic particles... In exile in a suburb off South San Jose, i wrote this under the earthquake weather of palm trees in a shimmering heat, where dissonance and assonance went for a walk a Roman garden. It was an ordinary day, full of the smell of sun on bold flowers and their green wilted leaves, and the damp of the snail that lurked in the shade.
