Catching big Redfish on the east coast of Florida while collaborating with Jettie Rocks Fishing, Mike D.. Daily anchored among a community of anglers who are targeting these trophy Red Drum. This is the spawning season for these giants that rip drag like bullets when they make a hard run and refuse to give up the fight. We were fishing with blue crabs as bait. I fished with Mike for three days targeting these amazing fighting fish. We hooked up with several big Red Drum and had plenty of bites that we didn't capitalize on. I've caught some seriously good fish through the years, but can honestly say that for the size these Redfish fight harder than any fish I've ever hooked up with. Here's some information on the gear and rigging I used for catching these trophy sized REDS: 1. Penn spinning reel 6000, paired with an Ugly Stik Big Water 7 foot medium heavy rod, the reel was spooled with fifty pound braid 2. The weight was a three ounce egg sinker slid on the braid above a swivel that was attached to a thirty pound mono leader approximately four feet long 3. Seven ought extra strong hook 4. Live and dead blue crabs Mike said it several times during the three days that we fished , "these Redfish are so finicky"! Sometimes we would fish for several hours without getting a hit and the all of the sudden, WAM! We caught a total of seven big Red Drum during this weekend so stay tuned to your notifications because there's more fishing action coming your way.
