Secretary Purisima served in the government of the Republic of the Philippines as Secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry in 2004 and Secretary of the Department of Finance in 2005. On July 1, 2010 he was reappointed as Secretary of the Department of Finance. He has also served as Chair and Member of the Board of many government companies including the National Power Corporation (NAPOCOR), the Land Bank of the Philippines, and the Monetary Board.
