INGREDIENTS and price breakdown: STRAWBERRY 1 lb strawberries ≈$3.99 ¼ cup cane sugar ≈$0.25 ¼ cup agave ≈$0.75 ¼ cup fresh-squeezed lime juice + 1 tsp lime zest ≈$0.57 SPICES ≈less than $1.00 2 sprigs rosemary ½ tsp ground ginger lavender (optional) TOTAL COST: approx. $6.56 Makes about 16 oz. of preserves GRAPE 1 lb grapes ≈$3.75 ¼ cup cane sugar ≈$0.25 ¼ cup agave ≈$0.75 ¼ cup fresh-squeezed lemon juice + 1 tsp lemon zest ≈$0.98 ½ tsp allspice ≈$0.50 TOTAL COST: approx. $6.23 Makes about 14 oz. of preserves BLACKBERRY 1 lb blackberries ≈$4.65 ¼ cup brown sugar ≈$0.25 ¼ cup agave ≈$0.75 ¼ cup fresh-squeezed lemon juice + 1 tsp lemon zest ≈$0.98 SPICES ≈less than $1.00 ½ tsp ground cloves 1 cinnamon stick TOTAL COST: approx. $7.63 Makes about 14 oz. of preserves How to Make: 1) Literally throw all the ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. 2) Boil until the fruit becomes softened. It varies depending on the fruit. Strawberries, for example, will take a bit longer than blackberries. 3) Use a masher to mush 'em up a bit. 4) Let the mixture simmer until it's thickened. Once cooled and refrigerated, it will thicken even more!
