In Utah, Possible Drilling Near National Parks Triggers Controversy

At the end of last year, the Utah office of the federal government's Bureau of Land Management held its last 2008 auction of land for oil and gas exploration. But the session triggered outrage among environmentalists. The leases auctioned off involved thousands of hectares adjacent to some of the most vulnerable national parks and natural landmarks in the U.S. The Obama administration canceled the leases. But already, there are oil and gas installations in Nine Mile Canyon, a mixture of public and private property adjacent to the area of the controversial leases. And as producer Zulima Palacio tells us, the current controversy is far from over.
