An Artist's Research: Watch me as I paint an original painting from scratch, starting with how I create a back ground, to building up the layers of colour on each owl to how I put the final touches to the bird's feathers. I'm painting tawny chicks after photographing them feeding at my unorthodox garden bird table. First, I start with a plain white board. I put down the first background colours with large brushes. Next I start drawing out the shapes of the chicks. Then, I block in the owlets so that I have the basic colours in place. Finally I start building up layers of detail until the painting is complete. About Me: I am a British wildlife artist based in Thixendale, North Yorkshire. I use nestcams to study animal behaviour so that I can capture the individual characters of my wild subjects in paint.
