A playthrough of Natsume's 1993 professional wrestling game for the Nintendo Game Boy, Ring Rage.

Played through the tournament mode with "Shaddam." Or the Iron Sheik, whichever you prefer to refer to him as.

Ring Rage is one of those interesting titles that, if you've played it before, you will probably fondly remember, but if you go back and play it again, will likely ask yourself "WTF was I thinking?"

It was a fairly impressive game in 1993 - it looked and felt like pretty much every other 8-bit wrestling game out there, but there was a lot of detail in the graphics and the music was pretty catchy.

The unfortunate thing that those rose-tinted memories fog about this game is that the screen is *far* too busy for the LCD panel to ever keep up. The game regularly turns into a smeared mess of green and grey. But, as long as those batteries hold, it's not like you need to see much of it anyways. There isn't too much technique involved - get as close to the enemy as you can and hit the buttons like a cracked-out madman. It's pretty simple yet effective mindless entertainment.

There are six wrestlers, some of which (lacking a license) "resemble" a real-life fighter: You get "KO" Joe, Gunboat Rody, Spike, Yasha, Killer Cane, and Shaddam.

For anyone who is interested, this video was recorded through the Gambatte core in Retroarch using the DMG Handheld shader for that blurry, "dot matrix" pea-soup green Game Boy experience.
