United Nations, New York, 29 May 2009 - On the occasion of the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers the Dag Hammarskjöld Medals was awarded posthumously to the military, police and civilian personnel who lost their lives in 2008 serving in United Nations peacekeeping operations. The medals have been received by representatives of the respective Permanent Missions to be forwarded on to the next of kin. International Day of U.N.
