The preserve is only around 80 hectares (200 acres) although it seems much bigger than this when one is on the ground. Access is from Via Gaitero, just north of Cathedral Oaks Rd. parallel to route 154. Take Via Chaparral towards the hills and turn right on Salvar Rd and from there left on Via Gaitero will take you to the entrance to the preserve. The area was once much bigger but declined in size as it was sold for housing and roads. The preserve was created when planning permission was denied to create an equestrian-themed community of 75 homes and later 15 single family lots and five “affordable” condominiums on a portion of the land. I would like to remember my friend Evelyn Zaid whose voice can be heard in this video. Evelyn died six months after this video was shot, aged only 35. I wish I had done somthing better to remember her by.
