Chris Turner is the 2012 Green Party candidate for Calgary Centre.

On 2012-10-10 he spoke at Mark Hopkins "We Should Know" event. This is my personal coverage of the event.

I attended because I'd (ideally) like to support a green candidate (among progressive candidates). Of course I'd also like to see Molten Salt Reactors developed in Alberta, and Green Party isn't exactly pro-nuke. Chris did speak about his attitude towards nuclear power, found at 16:35 in the video.

As of this point Turner has not offered any thoughts specific to Molten Salt Reactors. We will arrange discussion between Chris Turner, a Calgary company looking to deploy MSR to improve oil sands ROEI, and Dr. David LeBlanc...

...sometime after the election. NDP is anti-nuke. Conservative MPs have routed all MSR questions to Honourable Joe Oliver Minister of Natural Resources. Joe Oliver cites DOE concerns about liquid fuel, and says Canada is focusing Gen4 research on Supercritical Water-Cooled Reactor.

So PCs exclusively support continuing pressurized water reactor development. (Put cooling water under even more pressure! Yeah! What could do wrong!?) And Calgary Centre PC candidate Joan Crockatt (who I witnessed at one of the few debate she bothered to attend) does not live in the same fact-based reality as myself.

So the best bet for MSR research (IMHO) is Chris Turner. And the best bet for Calgary Centre is the combination Elizabeth May and Chris Turner in Ottawa. EMay has already had a tremendous impact on shaping legislation. She argues having a second Green MP will more than double their impact.

Elizabeth May has a copy of "Superfuel" (by Richard Martin) and "Thorium - Energy Cheaper than Coal" by Robert Hargraves. I'm certain a Turner victory will bring increased access to Elizabeth May in Calgary. And Chris Turner himself is an extremely easy to access fellow. I'd predict a high-bandwidth conversation on the subject of MSR will follow this byelection.
