Policeman stabbed in Brussels, attacker shot

(20 Nov 2018) A policeman was stabbed by an assailant on Tuesday morning who was shot close to the Grand Place in Brussels' historic centre. The motivation behind the attack was unclear. The victim was hospitalised with non-life threatening injuries while the attacker was seriously injured. Belgian Interior Minister Jan Jambon described the pre-dawn incident was a "cowardly act against our policemen." Justice Minister Koen Geens said investigators were looking at all possible motivations including links to extremist groups but that there were no clear indications as yet.
