Trudeau: Canadian intelligence has heard Khashoggi tapes

(12 Nov 2018) Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday became the first Western leader to acknowledge his country has received Turkish intelligence recordings of the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Ahmad Khashoggi. On Saturday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he had given tapes to a number of Western countries. The Canadian leader is the first since Erdogan's announcement to officially confirm that his country's intelligence has listened to the audio. Trudeau said he personally had not heard it, and he wouldn't when pressed give any details on the contents. The Canadian leader was speaking in Paris after attending the WWI armistice commemorations. In addition to his comments on Khashoggi, he also hit out at Russia for its actions in Ukraine and elsewhere, and he made clear to the United States that he wanted a swift resolution to the dispute over steel and aluminium tariffs.
