Breezing through Cape Chignecto Provincial Park, Cap D'or & Five Islands Lighthouses

1. Five Islands Lighthouse is such a pretty spot for a picnic! 45°24'19.9"N 64°05'17.0"W It's pet friendly, and they have flush toilets and fresh water. There is a small parking lot but two or three RV can park here easily. We had lunch here, powered up with our solar panels and rested before making our way to our next stop. There is a great view of (most) of the islands, and the lighthouse is charming. If you are in the area, why not stop for a picnic and some pictures? 2. Cape D'Or Lighthouse is another lovely Nova Scotia Lighthouse. French explorer Samuel de Champlain named Cap d’Or (Cape of Gold) when he sailed by in 1607 and noticed glimmers of gold in the basalt cliffs. The metal in the cliffs was copper rather than gold, but the name stuck. This is Nova Scotia’s only Lighthouse with overnight accommodations. The road in is a well graded gravel road but it can be tricky with a large trailer or RV. We were fine with our 17' Casita Travel Trailer and Dodge Ram 1500 Pickup. There is a parking lot above the lighthouse and you can walk down from there. The walk down to the lighthouse is a bit steep but definitely worth it. You'll be treated to great views of the nearby cliffs. We wouldn't attempt to drive down though. 3. Cape Chignecto Provincial Park We enjoyed the hiking in this park. The trail we hiked was one of the more popular ones and brought us to a nice overlook and back along the beach to the Visitor's Center. What we liked best was the quality of the hike, the view (although obstructed) from the top, and the fact that it was pet friendly. There is plenty of space to park any size RV and because it was off season, it wasn't very busy. The have an extensive network of hiking trails for all skill levels.
