Defying party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav's advice to exercise restraint during a public meeting, Samajwadi Party leader Chaudhari Lalta Prasad Nishad lost his cool and went on to use abusive language against opponents. Nishad, who enjoys the status of minister of state in Uttar Pradesh cabinet, was addressing an electoral gathering in a Banda village. Badmouthing rivals, he asked people not to vote for those candidates who offer them liquor. The SP leader reportedly also distributed party caps among supporters during the event, violating the model code of conduct.
