DEANO - BABY LET ME BE YOUR BABY THIS ARTIST WAS THE WINNER OF OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS IN SEPTEMBER 1965.
Born in Ely, Cardiff, Deano (real name Geraldine Wilson) lives with her parents at the pub in Tiger Bay that was Shirley Bassey's 'local' - The Ship and Pilot. She got the name Deano because her younger brother could not pronounce Geraldine!
Pert, cute, freckled-faced Deano - holder of the high jump record for her age at the school she attended in Ely - burst into the limelight after her uncle Pat Murphy, a well-known sports journalist in Fleet Street, took her to meet Cyril Stapleton and Geoffrey Everitt of Radio Luxembourg. They were so impressed that it was arranged for Deano to make a record. Then came the national exposure when Hughie Green put her into 'Opportunity Knocks'.
She won and received a fantastic response from the voting public - and scores of offers from show business executives, and signed up finally with West One Entertainments.
Deano is... a bronze medallist for tap dancing and a first medallist for ballet... a talented impressionist... won the trophy and £1,000 (when aged 12) at the Butlin's National Talent contest in 1964... the girl who overcame T.W.W.'s 'no English' ruling by singing in French (she is unable to speak Welsh).
This dynamic little singer started in show biz when she was 11. She likes horse rising, acting, swimming and mod clothes, and is a Shirley Bassey fan.
Her first release on the Columbia label was 'Just a child in this world'.
And Deano, the schoolgirl who already earns well over £250 a week, is still only at the start of a brilliant singing career.
