The Cassidy Lean-To Site is a new camping destination at Camp Woodland in Central New York. Owned by Longhouse Council, Boy Scouts of America, it is a perfect introduction to backpack camping, a destination for a moonlight snowshoe hikes or the perfect retreat for a Venture Crew, Patrol, Troop or unit Committee. It is named in honor of Albert Bruce Cassidy, Senior Patrol Leader of Troop 43 of Syracuse, NY. Cassidy joined the 299th Engineer Combat Battalion in WWII and was killed in action during the Normandy Invasion. A fellow Scout donated the funds to make this site possible in the memory of Bruce Cassidy. Camp WoodlandRangers, Camp Masters, members of Lowanne Nimat Lodge, Order of the Arrow, Scouts and volunteers built these three lean-to's. www.cnyscouts.org for more information and reservations for the Cassidy site, our numerous cabins accommodating 12-36 and bountiful tenting sites. Camp Woodland is 700 beautiful wooded acres about 35 minutes North-Northeast of Syracuse, NY. A perfect four season experience, it receives more snow per year than any other Northeast Boy Scout Camp - great for winter camping, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and snow shelter camping in the winter.
