John Pope, a 65-year-old Canadian man, was already facing charges of malicious mischief when he opened fire inside a Municipal Trial Court in Cebu City on Jan. 22, 2013. A doctor who had filed charges against Pope and the doctor's lawyer were killed, while an assistant prosecutor was wounded. Pope was also later shot and killed. The suspect was carrying a .38 caliber improvised pistol when he entered Branch 6 of the Municipal Trial Court, where his case was being heard. He shot Dr. Rene Rafols, and the doctor's lawyer, Giovanni Achas. Pope then went to Branch 1 of the Municipal Trial Court and fired at assistant prosecutor Ma. Theresa Casino, wounding her, before he was shot by a responding policeman. The suspect died while being treated for a gunshot wound in the head. SOURCE: Inter Aksyon, Manila CHannel, philSTAR.com
