APD Citizen Officers Sworn In

ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- The Asheville Police Department has 26 new citizen police officers serving as volunteer police ambassadors to help neighborhood watch groups monitor crime. The citizen police trainees graduated at a ceremony and celebration at the Twisted Laurel just across from APD. Trainees go through a 14-week course, and one night a week trainees shadow officers from the crime lab to forensics to patrols. "Throughout the course of the program most of the time officers would come and talk to us about their specific branch, but then we also got to go into the new courthouse and we went to the polygraph room and got to sit there and watch that," graduate Britnee Roland said. APD has offered the citizen police academy training for years.
