The bus that pulled up initially in Sa Pa had just come from Hanoi overnight. Although I thought it was the vehicle we'd be in to get to Dien Bien Phu, we actually took a minivan. It's definitely a much-less-traveled route. No big busses. This trip ended up taking 8 hours and was extremely scenic. See my Asia photos: http://www.jpwphoto.com/f561024062
