Lemurs are unique primates found only on the island of Madagascar that have evolved independently from monkeys and apes. But they are considered to be the most threatened mammal 
group on Earth. With their wide-eyed, eerie stare and night time activities, lemurs are spectre-like figures of Madagascar's forests: 'lemur' means ghost in Latin, and it is not difficult to see how the enigmatic and elusive animals got their name.
