The 389 cubic inch V8 is the centerpiece of the GTO package and with the Tri-Power carburetion boasted 348bhp. All first generation GTO's have a special place in collector's hearts as the first of the muscle car species and enjoy milestone status, especially the 1964 model which many consider the purest of the breed, if not the all time fastest! Tri-Power equipped first year coupes seem to have a special aura among enthusiasts too. It was amazing how much torque the GTO had for an essentially stock six-passenger car and it became a legend in it's own time. The GTO could accelerate from 0-60 in under 7 seconds - a quite remarkable feat in it's day and even today!
