I had long wanted switchable lights in Minecraft. The best option was redstone, and I did make a video of me testing that. However, since redstone torches emit like 0.06F light (torches are 15F), that really was not an option for room lighting. Then later Notch added GlowStone blocks, which are great, a bit ugly, but great. So upon taking up modding, I decided to create my very own switchable lights. You can find this mod on the minecraftforum.net forums as soon as "read-only" is off.
