Food Safety and Standard Authority of India has filed an affidavit before the High Court in which it has prescribed ad-hoc limit of naturally occurring formaldehyde in fish. FSSAI has stated that it is giving ad-hoc limit because its expert scientific panel is yet to give the final report. FSSAI in its affidavit has stated that naturally occurring formaldehyde in fish ranges from 4mg/KG to 100mg/KG. The High Court adjourning the hearing for Monday, has directed FSSAI to submit documents supporting ad-hoc limit of naturally occurring formaldehyde in fish as mentioned in affidavit.
During hearing before the High Court on Wednesday, Food Safety and Standard Authority of India filed an affidavit, in which it has prescribed ad-hoc limit of Naturally occurring formaldehyde in fish. The FSSAI stated that fresh water fish has 4mg formaldehyde inherent /KG, whereas marine fishes have upto 100 mg formaldehyde inherent /KG
