DIY of a cricket bat reinvented. Future of cricket bats. Many cool DIYs like this on the channel that you can do for FUN or even as part of a school project. Some are ORIGINAL and you will not see them anywhere else on the net before you do on our channel. http://scroll.in/article/716600/The-cricket-bats-have-come-a-long-way:-from-shifting-shapes-to-shifting-weight-on-demand Every game and sport goes through changes, some changes stay and some are reverted back to the original. Changes in rules, technology, umpiring/refereeing and even how you play or what you play with. Look at field hockey over the years, tennis, squash, F1, swimming etc. As technology, materials and processes evolve, so does the equipment...once again... most of the fans dont like any change but soon get used to it. When you look back, then one realizes that its best to look at changes with an open mind. At every stage of human history and present and future, there are HEROES and they are important to keep any sport alive. Constant change in the sport and all paraphernalia is necessary because otherwise the records will start stagnating based on human limits and when no one breaks records, no new heroes are born. In cricket, 20/20 format itself was ridiculed at one point and today it’s most popular. The playing style of 20/20 cricket is big hits and even bigger hits, and this style has now encroached not only in the one-day’ers but also in the test matches. Big, bigger, biggest. This video presents just a basic idea of how a variable position weight inside a cricket bat can bridge the best of both worlds. The light bat for the precise placement of the cricket ball, and it can also increase the effective weight to make the bat impact greater than the heaviest bat in the game. Basically, through a simple mechanism, one can have a “W.O.D Bat” or which offers the batsman “Weight on Demand”. Without technology, just by the nature of the swing, the bat changes its CG with the effect of almost reading the person’s intention in dispatching the ball. For the mechanism itself that we have presented, I would like to add that it is obviously not the prettiest approach to the idea, but it is the simplest way we could rig up the mechanism to SHOW that it works. As a further design process one can take it to any level of finesse, where it can work like a sophisticated piece of product design with absolutely zero visual presence. The shifting weight using a slider and cheap elastic is the simplest way to do it, but there will be many other ways to achieve the same thing…that’s up to you. On my part, I like to come up with ideas, try them and if they work, share it on this platform. If anyone wants to take the idea forward into production, please do and just remember to give us our due credit. This concept is open source and free to use, and now since it’s on a public platform, it CANNOT be patented…☺
