(13 Dec 2018) Rep. Nancy Pelosi says President Donald Trump is the "only obstacle" to keeping government open. A government shutdown is looming over a fight for government funding. The funding fight is something leaders of both parties had hoped to avoid as Congress seeks to wrap up its work for the year and adjourn for the holidays. But Trump, who for months had suggested he'd be willing to force a shutdown over wall funding, dashed hopes for a quick resolution on Tuesday, sparring with Pelosi and Schumer during an extraordinary Oval Office meeting that he made sure played out in front of television cameras. Rep. Nancy Pelosi also said she doesn't feel constricted by an agreement that clears the way for her to become House speaker next year in exchange for agreeing to hold the post for no more than four additional years. The California Democrat told reporters Thursday that four years is a long time. The 78-year-old Pelosi agreed Wednesday to a limit her service in the House's top job. By doing that, she won over insurgent Democrats who've wanted to clear the way for younger leadership. She'd spent weeks resisting a time limit, saying she didn't want to lose clout.
