While most of us spend time last minute Christmas shopping, this woman is doing something a little different. Delylah MacDonald is stuffing backpacks with gifts and supplies she has collected all year. "This isn't one person or two people doing all this. This is hundreds of people who do a little thing," MacDonald says. They donate items like razors, shampoo, blankets, can openers, anything a homeless person living on the streets might need. "For me, I give them things but the message I want to give them is we see you, you matter and hopefully that can be the thing that they need to get motivated or to get help get back into society," MacDonald says. In December 2017, we first told you about MacDonald when she started a project called "Kits Kits" after an encounter with a homeless man at a Fresno bus stop changed her, made her rethink her priorities. "I use to think they were junkies or alcoholics or people who had done something wrong and that's why they are out there but once I started getting involved with them and talking to them it helped me to see them not as a bad person who messed up but people that something bad happened to them," she says. So for the past 15 years MacDonald has been celebrating Christmas by giving to the homeless. She has a Facebook page to connect with those who want to help many saw her story last year and have joined to help. "We've had a lot of new people following the Facebook page since the last news piece," MacDonald says. "We've had donors from out of town from out of state." One thing hasn't changed, Early Christmas morning, while the rest of us are sleeping, MacDonald puts on her fairy wings and she and her husband Jeff, drive the alleys and side streets of Fresno delivering Christmas gifts to the homeless. "It's hard, it's hard to see people out there with frost on their clothes, their hair. They are sleeping out there with no socks and just shivering," MacDonald says. Adding: "But it feels amazing to know that the little bit that i'm doing is something."
