El exceso de peso es uno de los problemas de salud pública más graves en este siglo y está afectando a muchos países, incluido Costa Rica. El sobrepeso y la obesidad en la niñez y la adolescencia costarricense han venido aumentando de manera alarmante. Por lo tanto, en el marco de conmemoración del Día Mundial de la Alimentación en Costa Rica, los Ministerios de Salud, Agricultura y Ganadería, Educación, Planificación Nacional y Política Económica, Bienestar e Inversión Social, la Caja Costarricense del Seguro Social, entre otros, con apoyo de la FAO y la OPS han asumido un compromiso político para frenar este fenómeno y revertirlo hacia un estilo de vida más saludable.
