Now kicking off the show we sit down with Rudy Valdez, a Michigan-raised, Brooklyn-based filmmaker committed to making meaningful documentary films about social, cultural and political issues, like his recent award-winning film The Sentence. The film explores the devastating consequences of mass incarceration and mandatory minimum sentencing through the story of Cindy Shank, a mother of three young children serving a 15-year sentence in federal prison. A lyrical, intimate journey documented over 10 years the Sentence follows this mother’s struggle to be present in her children's lives. And it’s a heart-wrenching story that deserves to be told, right here, on American Latino TV.
