180 people died and just under 1 000 cases of Listeriosis were confirmed in the country in 2018. The first case of the deadly outbreak was in October 2017. Thousands of cases were noted. Listeriosis is a severe food-borne illness It's source was found to be polony, cold meats and ready to eat processed foods from an Enterprise manufacturing plant in Polokwane in Limpopo.
