A friend of our found a nest of newly hatched chicks in her yard during the fall. We relocated the momma hen and her chicks to a safer, dryer home on her porch. We used our old wooden brooder that has a lid. We then gave them chick starter food and water. Momma hen will eat the chick food. This is completely fine for her. Then we covered the brooder with a tarp to protect them from the wind and rain as the brood was on the front porch. The chicks will keep warm by snuggling under their momma.
