Adra (real name Alandria Sheffer) hails from the Mission district of San Francisco. Originally from Nevada, 8 years ago she made her way westward in pursuit of artistic inspiration and hasn't looked back since. Heavily informed by the sounds of her youth, she constructs refreshingly simple yet eloquent excursions with her modest hardware setup. That is to say, mechanized techno inspired by the likes of Nitzer Ebb, Kraftwerk and of course the master himself, Jeff Mills.

Her debut EP "Fear Is the Mind Killer" takes us on a Frank Herbert-inspired journey through a barren, desolate planet of sand and hostile lifeforms. The lead track "Arrakis" marries a delicate counterpoint of FM synth barrages laced with TR-909 drum work executed to great effect. Meanwhile "Chapterhouse" delves deeper into more ominous terrain, loosely based around a foreboding synth line shifting in and out of focus as alien life support tones chime in. Last but not least, "Kaitain" steps up to bat with a more upfront yet similarly sinister palette at work, with eerie vocals and chord stabs juxtaposed in time. Fellow San Franciscan Matrixxman offers a fresh take on his remix of "Chapterhouse" further upping the ante by ramping up the tempo while simultaneously expanding upon the already present motifs. The combined synergy of the aforementioned tracks packs an efficient but devastating punch. Strap on your "stillsuit" and enjoy the ride.
