The Hanseatic city of Greifswald has a lot to gain from Germany's new economic stimulus package. Greifswald's University Hospital alone is to receive 48 million euros, most of which will go towards a new building. The city treasury's coffers, too, will be more than 5 million euros richer. Some of this money is to be spent expanding Greifswald's Museumshafen That sounds like good news for the local construction industry, but the companies won't be seeing any benefit from it for some time. Because the University Hospital has to accept tenders from across Europe for its construction project,no contracts will be awarded before 2010 at the earliest. And Greifswald's city council still has to vote on how to spend its new windfall. Marion Hütter travelled to Greifswald to find out more.
