I painted this watercolour from my imagination.  I’ve painted a few from my head in recent times but they’ve tended to come out very similar to one another so I was eager for this one to look a little different from the norm.

The first draft so to speak was unsatisfactory so I made the decision to re-wet it and add more washes.  I’ve found this an effective technique in the past for building up layers and increasing the mood and atmosphere.  

So long as you dry the paper between washes you can add as many layers as necessary until you’re happy with the painting.  As long as you retain the lights and darks and have contrasting tones then I think it’s a recipe for success.
