(16 Dec 2018) An Israeli minister said Sunday that Australia "made a mistake" by only recognising west Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
Tzachi Hanegbi, Israel's Minister for Regional Cooperation, said he hoped "Australia will soon find a way to fix the mistake it made".
On Saturday, Australia decided to formally recognise west Jerusalem as Israel's capital, but won't move its embassy until there's a peace settlement between Israel and the Palestinians, Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced.
Morrison said in a speech that Australia would recognise east Jerusalem as Palestine's capital only after a settlement has been reached on a two-state solution.
The Australian Embassy won't be moved from Tel Aviv until such a time, he said.
Also on Sunday, Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he delivered a clear message to Hamas that his country will not accept ceasefire in Gaza along with "triggering terror in Judea and Samaria".
Israel has stepped up raids in the West Bank as it searches for those behind two recent deadly attacks in the occupied territory.
It has arrested dozens of members of the Islamic militant group Hamas.
On Thursday, Netanyahu approved the expedited demolition of alleged militant homes in response to the shootings.
