Mockumentary gets a bad wrap, but it's a perfectly fine form. The fake movie within the movie here, Bus Stop, is cringe-worthy of course, particularly since not everyone is in on the joke. The delusional film director at work on a cheesy public service announcement masquerading as a short film, is a actor, while most of the other players aren't. They've been recruited to take part in a film about 3 men meeting at a bus stop and learning about racism, via the wrong assumption about who was mugging who. "That's what makes this movie so good. It's the twist at the end of the movie where you find out, you know what, I shouldn't be racist." Consistently entertaining, if not quite a reinvention, This is Jay Calvin, is carried by a funny, cocksure performance by co-director Jim Cummings, who wastes no time in showing oblivious arrogance.
