There are many ways to learn. And there are many ways to learn that there are many ways to learn. An American boatbuilder, writer and researcher, Douglas Brooks goes all over Japan to study traditional Japanese boatbuilding, a craft in danger of being lost, and becomes an apprentice for several craftsmen. What stuns him is the fact that the craft was completely undocumented. However, through his experience, he comes to see the wisdom that underlies traditional Japanese apprenticeship. He shares, "They showed me the ancient lessons of how to listen for the meaning in the silence."
